I had the privilege of working closely with Gerry Bunker for many years.
One of the things I appreciated most about working with Gerry is his collaborative and insightful nature. He wants to ensure the job is done in the best and most well thought out way possible; from every angle, not just through his development lens. He offered great insight and advice for the design aspects of many projects we worked on together and I always valued his opinion. Sometimes it was a usability suggestion, sometimes it was a vision of longer term maintenance that he had in mind - no matter what it was it was always useful and thoughtful advice.
Gerry is extremely knowledgeable in many areas of development and continues to grow his repertoire and understanding. He is in tune with the evolution of development and brings that understanding to every project he does. He is also a willing and patient teacher. I learned a great deal about development during the time we worked together.
We had one project in particular that could be labeled as tedious. It was something we both inherited and had to maintain weekly for years. This was not something that was developed or designed in a way that would be considered maintenance friendly but Gerry took pride in ensuring that the output, no matter how challenging or time consuming the work, was always professional and perfect. He really takes pride in his work.
Gerry also has expertise in science and other broad interests which make conversations with him even more interesting.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Gerry and I would highly recommend him as a great addition to any team.
eCommerce Project Manager @ Staples
I had the pleasure of working with Gerry for 5 years within the Staples.com space. He was always professional in his approach on every project and went above and beyond to help create new ways to engage the customer for the best experience. Gerry was great at trouble shooting any issues that occurred with creative assets on the website and was always my go to person to brainstorm innovative ideas for the site. He always delivered the assets on or ahead of schedule even if he had to make last minute changes due to shifting priorities. He was a great business partner who delivered quality work. Gerry would be a true asset to any company.
Project Manager, Membership Programs. @ Staples
In my Account Services role, I worked with Gerry on mostly responsive email and landing page development. With consistent high volume and always critical deadlines, Gerry brought a sense of calm to each project – you just knew it would be done with precision and on time. His response times were immediate, eliminating the need to track him down, which is like gold for any account manager. While always meeting deadlines he was also patient in order to explain and resolve technical issues so that non-experts could understand. Gerry would be a welcome addition to any team.
Associate Creative Director. @ Craft WW Boston
As one of the in-house developers, Gerry’s dedication and knowledge set him aside as someone I could rely on to develop my layouts on time and accurately. He always puts in the extra time to get it done right as he recognizes and solves issues before they became problems. Gerry is eager to answer questions and teach designers best practices allowing for work to be executed efficiently, aesthetically and collaboratively.
Senior Manager - Membership Strategy and Innovation @ Staples
Gerry and I worked together on many projects over the years across the Staples.com site. His attention to detail, responsiveness, and willingness to go the extra mile to get things right were extremely valuable to me and our company. Our work ran the gamut from last minute fixes, to planning long term solutions for regular updates to speed up processes and minimize errors, and Gerry was the consummate partner in all of these situations.

Staples isn't just about office supplies any longer. Staples offered limited and extended warranties in certain product categories. This microsite uses a tiered calculator programmed in javasript.

At Staples, weekly promotions were offered for Staples' members rewards programs. Since this was a tiered program, multiple promotions were run targeting each tier and appeared on the home page. To this end, a rapid prototyping methodology was implemented for internal creative reviews. Banners were adaptive to 4 breakpoints.

Coupon Corner is the most viewed and revenue-generating page on Staples.com. This page is updated several times a week. Excel spreadsheets are feeding into php scripts and weekly static html content is outputted. These html "snippets" are then wrapped in apache code and are date-driven to go live on the servers every Sunday.

Probably one of the most difficult types of emails we developed. This type, just as the name suggests tells a story. Not only were background images used via Campaign Monitor's Bullet-proof background method to great effect, but I even used the css Flex method which was adopted through our standarized email templates. If you are on desktop resize the browser window to see responsiveness.

Part of the Staples Product Database (pdb), this is one of many pages which make up the staples.com infrastructurer. It combines creative html snippets as part of the dynamically generated product database which is category-driven. It is developed to be adaptive (not responsive) to 4 breakpoints.

Another Staples Product Database (pdb) example. This particular page posed a new series of hurdles in that due to angular.js which is part of the main page template. Certain attributes of the html elements were getting stripped out prior to page load. With the use of javascript and the trigger() method I was able to trigger a click and dynamically place the attributes back in. See the Comparison Chart.

This high-level category focuses on various products from time-to-time depending on time-sensitive promotions. It serves as a jumping-off point to other areas of the Staples.com website. In order to feature multiple a large array of products in a small amount of space, I developed this very cool tabbed interface.

Working as a developer, I developed emails several times a day. One of the most difficult challenges was ensuring that the emails rendured correctly across approximately 40 email clients - including, web, desktop and mobile clients. Not only were background images used via Campaign Monitor's Bullet-proof background method to great effect, but I even used the css Flex method which was adopted through our standarized email templates. If you are on desktop resize the browser window to see responsiveness.

This page was developed to help familiarize new Staples Business Advantage members' with the membership program. It uses the Vidyard Video Player API to deliver video. This page is particularly interesting because I developed it to so that when the user hits "Watch Video" trigger, the video slides into view and begins playing and the page scrolls into focus for the video. If the window width is less than 640 pixels, and should the user scroll and the video is no longer in the viewport, the video pauses. Should the user scroll the video back into the viewport the video begins to play again.

The Next Generation Easy Button project was a beta program that a focused group of Staples' best clients were invited to try. It was an AI program based off of IBM's Watson AI and similar to Amazon's Alexa. This microsite was developed to familiarize thosee participating in the program with how the button worked.
